You’re In the Right Place
to Make a Difference

We – and maybe you – are the backbone that helps fundraisers connect with supporters and change the world. We were founded out of frustration and disappointment in business-as-usual fundraising. This vision – that there’s more beneath the surface – continues to drive MarketSmart’s success. We are a tightly knit team out to change the world of fundraising. It’s a gigantic challenge, and we relish this challenge. If you’re tired of the same-old, same-old work and feeling like your 9-to-5 has you in a holding pattern, we might just be a great fit for each other.

Our Hiring Process

We don’t believe in “plugging holes” in our organization chart. We have big, audacious goals and need determined people to reach those goals together. To avoid that sinking feeling of “Oh, I may have made a mistake” on the first day,” we have a deliberate yet easy hiring process based on honesty. We will be clear about our expectations of you and the role you will be filling. In return, we expect honesty from you, starting with deciding that we are a great fit, not just a stopgap while you continue to search for “something better.” We want you to be happy! After all, if you aren’t, we won’t be either!

Our Culture

Without the right internal culture, companies flail and fail. WITH the right culture, great things are possible. If you find yourself nodding along with everything here, we might just have the same values.

  • No Peeing in the Pool
We are a small, tight team. We spend a lot of time together and choose to work with people who feel the same as we do. No drama llamas here. Just a dedication to doing great work daily to change the world of fundraising.
  • Relentless Focus On Our Mission
We begin at the beginning for every decision we make: How does this decision support our mission? We have robust yet respectful conversations to reach our conclusions within a cohesive and supportive team atmosphere.
  • Real Relationships Create Value
We focus on creating value for everyone – clients, employees, and the company. Relationships and processes are consistently reviewed to ensure they continue to provide value.
  • Process Over Destination
Success is a process – not a destination. We believe in setting – and meeting! – goals, but once we meet a goal, we don’t stop. There’s always a new challenge to master, and we never settle into complacency.
  • Problem Solving
You don’t have to do it alone. We believe that two (or more) heads are better than one. We focus on a collaborative culture because great work can’t be done in a vacuum.

FAQs

A: Absolutely, we take care of our team. Along with comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans, we provide a health savings account, a 401(k) plan, and a range of perks that make working at MarketSmart more than just a job.

A: We always want our employees to feel like they can unplug after work and recharge because those moments are where the best ideas usually form. However, as a service-driven business, there might be moments when you need to peek at your email and save the day. We like to think of ourselves as a team of superheroes – you’re mostly off-duty, but when a customer shines the bat signal, we want them to know we’ll be there! In short: We all expect good judgment based on a fair work/life balance model.

We’re looking for people who truly fit because they ‘get it’ (understand and agree with our mission and their role), want it (are looking for a meaningful experience working with great people who want to grow and succeed, too), and are capable of doing their job in ways that match or exceed our expectations.

We recommend you look back upon your career and recount stories of success. But we’re also interested in hearing about your challenges, and how you overcame them.

If you tell us true stories, together, we’ll be able to determine if the fit is right.

Additionally, we encourage you to recognize that this is a two-way street. We want you to interview us as much (or more) as possible. That way you can determine if there’s any misalignment.

We have learned that onboarding people who don’t fit is as costly for us as it is for new employees. So, let’s avoid a poor fit together, ok?

A: Lean into our online survey. It’ll never replace the face-to-face time we spend together, but it relieves you of the burden of repeating yourself to every new MarketSmart team member. The survey is just one more way we strive to make our new hire process as efficient, productive and painless as possible!

At MarketSmart, we all do what we must in order to get the job done. You won’t be watched. You won’t punch a clock. And you won’t be micromanaged.

You’ll receive quite a lot of autonomy and only you can decide if that kind of culture suits you. If you’re the self-motivated type who deplores micromanagement, you’ll love it. If you prefer more concrete oversight and direction, this might not be the best place for you.

Additionally, most nights and weekends, you won’t be bothered at all. In fact we encourage you to maintain a very healthy work/life balance.

However, in rare cases, when problems are unraveling that affect the company’s core purpose or make things difficult for other team members, we expect people to lean in and help. Teamwork makes the dream work.
