5 thoughts that might lead your supporters to feel donor remorse

Here are some of the thoughts crossing your donors’ minds while you’re asking them to support your cause:

  1. Will they say thank you or just take my money and run?
  2. Will I now get flooded with lots of spam or junk mail asking for more money?
  3. Will they call and badger me for more money?
  4. Will they sell my name to another nonprofit that will bombard me with solicitations?
  5. Will they tell me what they did with my money and whether or not the impact was achieved?

Bottom line: Your supporters will think to themselves, “What will happen if I give them my money?” You need to answer those questions before they give to assure them that they are making a wise decision. Then, after they give, you better make good on your promises. If you don’t, they’ll feel donor remorse and you’ll lose donors.

Got some other thoughts you believe they might have? Please add to my list.
