Know Me, Like Me, Trust Me

Fundraisers can learn a lot from private business experts and entrepreneurs. One of my favorite bloggers, Thomson Dawson, recently wrote a post about his strategy for “selling” (fundraising) through social media.  His warning:  Evolve or die a slow death.

He continues by outlining his strategy for social media so all of us can evolve and be effective.  The strategy is quite simple:

  1. Build awareness (know me)
  2. Provide value (like me)
  3. Be transparent (trust me)

I love this! It’s so simple yet it’s precisely what I espouse when I talk about engagement fundraising.

Are you and your organization employing this strategy? Are you building awareness for your cause among your major supporters and prospects? Providing value with meaningful engagement offers and opportunities? Delivering transparent reports on your results?

Or are you just asking for money?
