Boomer Giving Vs. Millennial Giving: Myth-Busting Facts

Contrary to common belief, more Millennials give than Boomers. A smaller percentage of Boomers give but contribute more dollars and give to more organizations because they are wealthier.

Boomers are now a smaller percentage of the population.

The comparison chart below contrasts how they give (NP Source). Boomers, particularly the oldest ones, are more loyal to institutions. Millennials are more loyal to causes, which helps explain why more Boomers enroll in monthly giving and more Millennials engage in crowdfunding campaigns.

Research done by the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy shows that Millennials are harder to retain than previous generations, and each generation is harder still.
