How are you doing compared to your peers?

Claire Axelrad, J.D., CFRE (an expert on fundraising, social media, and nonprofits) pulled together these nuggets from my Fundraising Report Card app. For that, I owe her a huge ‘THANK YOU’!!

The Fundraising Report Card is now being used by almost 3,400 nonprofits to analyze and visualize their metrics. Then they output their visualizations for board meetings or simply use them to set strategy.

Here’s what she discovered by looking at the comparative benchmarks you can find here.

How do you compare with these stats?

  • 87% of all donors in the past 12 months have given just $100 or less.
  • 98% of all donors in the past 12 months have given $1,000 or less.
  • ONLY 4% of donors make up 76% of the donations.
  • The top third of donors make up 96% of philanthropy.

Here, Claire says, “If you’re doing largely mail, email and event fundraising, you’re likely raising a lot less than you could be were you to focus your energies on the small group of donors who contribute the lion’s share of philanthropy.”

I couldn’t agree more.
